What I did on my summer vacation...

Ok, so I've been slacking on the bloggage... amongst many things lately, it seems I wasn't quite ready to end my vacation, in fact, I could probably make a career out of taking vacations, but, alas, Anthony Bourdain already got that gig, so it's back to the pastry mines for me.

Ate some delicious foods while in Vegas, drank some super tasty wines that you would never find in Nebraska, got spoiled by actual professional servers, who know how to treat you well in a restaurant. And saw a mind blowing show. Here's the condensed skinny on the best ingredients for a Vegas Getaway.

Where to Stay: Wynn, Encore, Palazzo, Bellagio

Where to eat: Almost anywhere, it's all amazing, but don't miss BOUCHON at the Venetian, we also enjoyed Sinatra at the Encore, B&B ristorante at the Palazzo, and Hubert Keller's Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay.

What to do: Cirque du Soleil 'O', Eat, Eat, Drink...Eat some more. Gamble... a little.

When to go: Feb-Mar or July-August (heat, not that bad)

Got some great little ideas for the garden...

Mass planting of Begonias at the Wynn, will definitely try this next year in a very sunny location!

Very respectable example of Parterre gardening at the Encore poolside, we are planning the beginnings of a major shift in our garden this fall, moving towards a more symmetrical style, while hopefully incorporating some parterre attributes.

Beautiful mass planting of hydrangeas and new guinea impatiens at Bellagio conservatory.

Spherical orbs of fresh cut flowers at the Wynn hanging from trees everywhere.

Since I am pastry guy, I had to pay homage to one of the masters, and, of course try to steal any ideas possible to enhance our selection of already wonderful pastries at the bakery.

The Following were all taken at Jean Phillipe Patisserie in Bellagio, he is, in my opinion one of the best pastry chefs in the world, and yes, it tastes as good as it looks.

left to right: Croissant, Apple turnover, Assorted pastries 1-4, Chocolate Fountain, wedding cake, danish pastries, bear claw.

Any vacation is a good vacation, taking a step back to look around and re-focusing your energy on what matters to you most is key.

Happy growing,
Green

  2. "O" is amazing (one of the best b-day gifts ever). I've been to Vegas and agree the best thing to do there is eat!
